Part Five - Matthew

Kevin was in the air blocking out the heart-warming rays of the sun. Rory thought this was the end so he closed his eyes, but suddenly an arrow came whistling towards Kevin. Rory heard the whistle and then felt the warmth of the sun. He opened his eyes and saw the beast on the floor with an arrow stuck in his leg. What happened here he thought. The next thing he saw was another shadow in the bush. Not again! Rory watched the shadow hold up their bow and put an arrow (with the shaft on fire) in the bow...

Part Four - Maria

Rory stayed stock still to the spot. He used to have a little tabby cat at home but that was nothing compared to the ferocious look of this beast. This cat looked terrifying but majestic and as it looked at him he could see the fire in its eyes. He decided to call the cat Kevin in case they became friends. He slowly thought about his options. Would the cat attack him if he moved? Or would it leave him alone? Maybe it would carry him somewhere. Slowly, without Rory noticing what  was about to happen, Kevin pounced.

Part Three - Marshal

He walked and walked until finally he came to a little pond. Using his bucket that he’d made, he scooped up a good amount of water with some fish in it. All of a sudden, Rory heard a rustling in the bushes, so he carefully crouched down behind a log that was lying dead, on the floor. On the outside, he was fine (inside, his heart was pounding). After about 30 seconds - which felt more like 30 minutes - something jumped out of the bushes! It was somewhat like a house cat, but he wasn’t quite so sure...

As had become his habit, he rose with the glowing orange sun on the dawn of this fateful day. Moving through the twisted vines and slender trunks of the jungle, he made his way to the fresh water lake, slaked his thirst and washed. He knew he needed to replenish his food supplies so would fish in the ocean before the sun reached its peak and made it unbearable. Perhaps this afternoon would be the time he finally explored the other side of this mysterious island - the place where the trees were not so welcoming and where the sun did not seem to reach.

Page One - In The Beginning...

It was now a year since the others had left the island. For 12 long months, Rory had been alone. Darn that storm that had come out of nowhere. Darn him being asleep when the others were rescued. Darn his 'mates' not remembering to take him with them. Was it on purpose? Where were they now? Would they come back?  Did he want them to come back though? He had shelter, food, warmth and animal companions. Human interaction had become merely a distant memory. As he chalked his 356th tally on his 'Day Count' though it felt to him like a significant moment and indeed that was to be the case.
